Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is just one of the innovative treatment options available from the physicians and neurosurgeons team at Re   Innovative Neuroscience Institute.

This cutting-edge technology is key to helping chronic pain-producing injuries heal safely and effectively. Our experienced team of leading professionals has remedied a wide range of musculoskeletal and joint-related problems with PRP treatment.

WHAT IS IT?

3

PRP is short for platelet-rich plasma, a modern treatment being offered in many sectors of medicine to help rejuvenate damaged tissue. It has much promise in the area of pain management.

Currently, its primary use is to ease conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system such as arthritis or tendonitis.

With this treatment, the Re   team uses the body's natural healing properties to promote faster and stronger tissue growth.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

With PRP, blood is drawn from the patient and the red blood cells are spun out. What is left is called plasma. This plasma consists of a concentrated liquid full of growth factors and autologous platelets that aid in healing.

Once the plasma is isolated, it is injected back into the patient in the damaged area to facilitate the healing process.

IS IT SAFE?

The PRP procedure is only minimally invasive. It requires only a blood draw and one or more injections to introduce the plasma into the tissue. Since the Re   team is using each patient's own blood, there is no chance of rejection or transference of disease. There is a rare possibility of infection from the needles, but the staff take standardized precautions to ensure that does not happen.

SHOULD I USE IT?

PRP therapy is ideal for patients who are considering surgery for a damaged area.

A few examples of possible injuries include:

  • Chronic elbow tendonitis

  • Rotator cuff tears

  • Patellar tendon injuries

  • Collateral ligament injury to the knee

  • Achilles tendonitis

PRP is also a practical choice for those with wear and tear arthritis. It can help cartilage repair itself before there is too much damage.

IS IT RIGHT FOR EVERYONE?

Our providers will do a full examination on each patient to determine if PRP is a possible treatment. Exceptions include patients with a blood disorder who are immunosuppressed, but each case is considered separately and the assessment is done appropriately to each individual's conditions.

ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS?

It is possible that the patient may feel a little achy, especially around the injection sites, for a couple of days after the treatment. This is a side effect of introducing growth factors into the area.

Inflammation may increase for a few days as well, but the pain should reduce naturally within days. Post-procedure instructions will be reviewed with each patient to keep them comfortable as the body heals.
